A serial killer in California was never caught—and you can hear a recording of his voice here

Living in California and hoping to have a good night's sleep? Well, let me be the first to apologize for this not-so-fun fact! The Golden State Killer, also known as the East Area Rapist and Diamond Knot Killer, murdered at least 10 people and sexually assaulted many more from 1976 to 1986—and he's never been caught.

One of his modus operandi, or method of operation, was to call his victims and hang up before attacking them. On at least two occasions, his voice was recorded (which you can listen to at the source) with some disturbing context.

His attacks started in the Sacramento area where he assaulted 50 women across seven counties from 1976 to 1979. A burglary and murder in April of 1974 in Visalia, CA was later linked to him. Finally he ravaged southern California from 1979 to 1986 by invading homes and murdering.

After the cases went cold, many are restarting the search since the possibility of him being out there today is all too real. This includes collecting evidence, learning the myths, studying the crime history, providing public knowledge, and yes, hearing his voice.
