Being born with cerebral palsy can cause a slew of different problems for people. Some of the symptoms of this movement disorder are poor coordination, stiff muscles, weak muscles, tremors, and difficulty speaking. It is a debilitating disorder that can hinder a person’s life.
That’s why it’s so inspiring to see a person overcome their disorder and truly embrace life. This boy with cerebral palsy was one of the many athletes competing in a triathlon – and he was determined to finish it. The crowd that gathered around to see him finish couldn’t have been more proud.
The courage and strength this little boy possesses will make you tear up:
Bailey Matthews is only 8-year-old, but he is incredibly brave. He even tossed aside his walker as he neared the end of the race. According to the Castle Howard Triathlon, this was Bailey’s first race.
The triathlon he completed included a 100-meter lake swim, a 4,000-meter bike ride and a 1,300-meter run.
He had some help along the way, but he finished the very last 20 meters by himself.
Not only is Bailey an inspiration himself, but the crowd that wildly cheered him on brought a tear to my eye. Good job, Bailey!
