A Little Girl Decided To Make Her Own Prosthetic With A 3-D Printer

Eleven-year-old Baylee Abbott may be missing fingers on one hand, but what she lacks in physicality she makes up for tenfold in intelligence. After using prosthetics for her entire life, she came across a project called Enabling the Future, which gave her an idea. She could build her own custom prosthetics with a little help from 3-D printing technology.

Once she figured out the basic principles, she enlisted the help of the folks at DoES Liverpool. Together, they came up with a prosthetic that could change thousands of lives.

Not only did Baylee come up with a great, practical tool for her to use every day, but she also found a way to express her creativity. She’s clearly a clever little one, and we can’t wait to see what she comes up with next!

After A Teen Helped This Little Girl At A Skate Park, Her Mother Had Something To Say

When this nervous mother brought her little girl to the skate park for the first time, she didn’t know what to expect. She spent ages convincing her daughter that she had every right to join the boys at the park, and after a while, the little one opened up to the idea. When they arrived at the park one day, Mom was ready to defend her daughter if any of the older boys picked on her.

While the child was trying to get the hang of it, a teenage boy approached her. What he did next blew her mother away.

Here’s a full transcript of what she had to say to the boy:

You’re probably about 15 years old, so I don’t expect you to be very mature, or for you to want a little girl on your skate ramp for that matter.

What you don’t know is that my daughter has been wanting to skateboard for months. I actually had to convince her that skateboarding wasn’t for just for boys.

So when we walked up to the skate park and saw that it was full of teenage boys who were smoking and swearing, she immediately wanted to turn around and go home.

I secretly wanted to go, too, because I didn’t want to have to put on my mom voice and exchange words with you.

I also didn’t want my daughter to feel like she had to be scared of anyone, or like she wasn’t entitled to that skate park just as much as you were.

So when she said, “Mom, it’s full of older boys,” I calmly said, “So what, they don’t own the skate park.”

She proceeded to go down the ramp in spite of you and your friends flying past her and grinding rails beside her.

She only had two or three runs in before you approached her and said “Hey, excuse me …”

I immediately prepared to deliver my “She’s allowed to use this park just as much as you guys” speech when I heard you say, “Your feet are wrong. Can I help you?”

You proceeded to spend almost an hour with my daughter showing her how to balance and steer, and she listened to you! A feat not attained by most adults.

You held her hand and helped her get up when she fell down, and I even heard you tell her to stay away from the rails so that she wouldn’t get hurt.

I want you to know that I am proud that you are part of my community, and I want to thank you for being kind to my daughter, even though your friends made fun of you for it.

She left the skate park with a sense of pride and with the confidence that she can do anything, because of you.

Jeanean Thomas, Cambridge

It’s really hard for teenagers to do the right thing because they’re so afraid of being judged by their peers. But even though this boy’s friends gave him a hard time, he decided to lend a helping hand to someone he knew was struggling. With a few moments of his time, he managed to help a little girl develop confidence that will last a lifetime.

A Little Girl Was Reportedly Saved From Kidnapping And Rape By Three Lions

For so many Ethiopian girls, living in constant fear of abduction, rape, and forced marriage is a way of life. After all, approximately 70 percent of all marriages in the country occur this way. The sad truth is that it came as no shock when one 12-year-old girl was abducted and forced to marry.

But fortunately for this little lady, a pack of fearless hunters came to her rescue.

This might be hard to believe, but a group of three lions watched over the girl for a full day before she was finally found by authorities.

The huge beasts were distressed when they saw the girl being beaten and assaulted, so they charged at the men and lured her away from them so that she could rest under their protection.

“They stood guard until we found her, and then they just left her like a gift and went back into the forest,” one police investigator said to NBC News.

According to Stuart Williams, a wildlife expert, the young girl may have survived because she was crying.

That’s because lions sometimes mistake this sound for the distressed cry of their own cubs. “A young girl whimpering could be mistaken for the mewing sound from a lion cub, which in turn could explain why they didn’t eat her,” said Mr. Williams.

Either way, we’re just happy that they were there to protect this poor girl. As of the last report, four of the seven men involved in this heinous crime have been arrested. If only these wonderful lions could watch out for the other girls who meet this awful fate every day.

What This Girl Does With A Straw Is A One-In-A-Million Shot

If you’re anything like pretty much everyone else on the planet, you love trick shots. After all, it’s absolutely amazing to see what people can do with basketballs, Frisbees, and golf balls when the pressure’s on. But people who pull off epic trick shots with atypical objects are even more impressive. That’s because anyone who’s familiar with shooting hoops probably knows enough about the physicality of basketballs to come up with a cool shot. People who work with weird materials don’t really have that advantage.

Just ask this girl. She made one of the most amazing trick shots that the world has ever seen with a simple plastic straw.

I don’t think the guy next to her had any idea what was going on at first! How did she do that? I’m going to watch this video until I can do it, too.

This Car May Look Great From Far Away, But It's More Impressive When You Zoom In

Lexus is a company known for making innovative and beautifully crafted cars. I mean, who doesn’t want to drive a sleek Lexus? Always pushing the envelope, they’ve now decided to craft an entire car out of cardboard.

You won’t even believe how beautiful it looks, and close-up views only make it better. It’s way too cool.

Made up of 1,700 laser-cut sheets of cardboard, this vehicle is a feat of engineering. You certainly have our attention, Lexus.

A Man Records The Northern Lights During A Superstorm, And What Happens Is Amazing

When it comes to writing bucket lists, most people focus on activities that really get the adrenaline pumping, like skydiving and base jumping. And that makes perfect sense, since those are things that the vast majority of people will only do once or twice.

Some people, however, are a bit less kinetic when it comes to their ambitions. They just want to see something that they’ll never forget. Luckily, the world is full of such wonders — one of them being the Northern Lights. When this filmmaker crossed the Aurora Borealis off of their list, they did so during a superstorm. The resulting footage is absolutely stunning.

Any sighting of the Northern Lights is unforgettable, but this display is unmatched. How often do you get to see footage of a superstorm, the Aurora Borealis, and a shooting star all at once? Of course, the person filming this had the true experience, but it’s still pretty amazing to get a glimpse into what that must have felt like.

A Stranger Started Running To Help A Dog In Need, But What He Found Baffled Him

Looking out his window, this man saw a pack of stray dogs roaming the streets. It wasn’t anything out of the ordinary, until he saw something strange. One of the dogs had his head stuck in something that could kill him.

Leaping into action, he raced after the dog to try and help:

Had this stranger not come along, we shudder at the thought of what could have happened to the dog. Without the ability to eat or drink — let alone breathe properly — he surely would have passed away.

A Helmet Cam Captured The Stunning Moment A Group Of Kayakers Saved A Man's Life
