Christine Hilberg was minding her own business, driving along in southern California, when she noticed a homeless man with a pup who looked in need of medical attention. That pup was Puka, and Hilberg’s friend, Roxy, convinced the homeless man to let the two women make sure that the pooch was alright.
Hilberg ended up becoming Puka’s mom…
His cleft lip was what made her think he might need a trip to the vet. But it’s only a cosmetic flaw.
Rocket Larry the tortoise, named after Larry David, has become Puka’s best friend.
Larry was rescued, too, from a reptile hoarder who’d posted about him on Craigslist.
As their mom, a photographer, likes to put them in matching outfits and share the images to raise awareness for pet adoption.
Sharing the special bonds that pets can have with each other and their humans reminds people of all the loving babes out there without homes.
Now, with almost 19,000 followers, they won’t just be sharing birthdays with each other…
