This truck can outlast your car--by a million miles!

Driving 1.4 million miles and hardly ever having to stop for repairs sounds like an almost impossible feat since engines are due to give up well before that mark. Not the case with this 2001 Dodge Ram 3500 that decided to take the ultimate endurance test.

The truck was purchased new at the end of 2000. It was equipped with two-wheel drive, an NV5600 six-speed manual transmission, and 4.10 rear axle ratio in the Dana 80. The star, the engine, was a 24-valve 5.9L Cummins with a VP44 fuel injection pump.

Driver Howard Clayton of Waterloo, Iowa bought the truck to haul camping trailers. He ended up pulling more than 360 of them from Indiana to many places in the Western United States. That means that nearly 65 percent of the trucks miles were accumulated while under a heavy load!

A mechanic out out Hallsville, Missouri was the only mechanic to touch the truck, and even then the repairs were pretty minor. Replacements included an injection pump, clutch, batteries, a couple water pumps, a vacuum pump, and other various pumps, belts and hoses. Overall, this was one mean, long-lasting machine!
