Denmark's driver's tests are HARD-- but judging by their low accident record, it pays off!

If you got your driver's license in Denmark, there is no doubt that you know how to handle a car in any circumstance thrown into your path. The requirements for obtaining a license are many and the test is extremely thorough.

You have to be 18 years old to apply for your license. It's also legally required for all new drivers to undertake seven hours of traffic related first-aid lessons to make sure you can respond to a medical emergency on the road.

License applicants must undergo 28 hours of driving theory lessons at a driving school and four practical maneuver lessons on a track. These lessons have to include lessons in driving in a figure eight, setting and stopping off by the side of a road, driving forwards and backwards with measured braking, reversing and turning, parking in bays, three-point turns, forward and reverse slalom, and breaking hard without locking the wheels.

They also have to attend lessons on a slippery track where they have to drive at speeds ranging from 30-70 kilometers per hour. This will teach them skills like road holding and loads, speed, braking length, regaining control after skidding and keeping control after driving over a high edge!

No wonder only 87 people were killed in Denmark in road accidents involving cars in 2012, compared to the staggering 34,080 in the USA in that same year.
