This plant is completely poisonous and holds a chemical that's used by criminals!

Commonly known as the angel's trumpet, all parts of the Brugmansia are poisonous, with the seeds and leaves being especially dangerous. Effects of ingestion can include paralysis of smooth muscles, confusion, tachycardia, dry mouth, diarrhea, migraine headaches, visual and auditory hallucinations, mydriasis, rapid onset cycloplegia, and death.

Some people use hallucinogens for pleasure, but no one would use the Brugmanisa this way. The effects are described as "terrifying rather than pleasurable."

Perhaps the most dangerous aspect of the plant is that it's rich in the chemical scopolamine, which is used by criminals. This is mostly in Columbia with approximately 50,000 cases each year. The chemical was considered and used as a truth serum, but the undesirable side effects stop most from using it as such.

Criminals mostly use the chemical to rob people, but it can also kill. Scopolamine can render a victim unconscious for 24 hours or more. In large doses, it can cause respiratory failure and death. The chemical can be administered as a liquid or powder.

In the powdered form, the chemical can be blown in people's faces. It's reported that those people will do anything they are told, and they never remember what happened when they wake up the next day.
