Will Smith doesn't use curse words in his raps. The reason why is heartwarming

Will Smith was the definition of cool throughout the 90s and early 2000s, a status earned without relying on the use of profanity in his rap songs. For him, it wasn't some sense of moral superiority or challenge; it was all because his grandma set him straight! Thanks to that little ol' lady, Will Smith was influenced to become a profanity-free family man—who managed to still be cool!

When Smith's grandma found some of his early profanity-littered lyrics, she made a couple edits. She wrote, "Dear Willard, intelligent people do not use these words to express themselves." Greatly respecting her opinion on the matter, Smith completely changed his lyrics and persona.

Some of Smith's biggest hits were songs he made for his own movies, such as 'Men in Black' and 'Wild Wild West.' Another popular single was 'Gettin' Jiggy wit It' in 1998, which reached #1 in the United States. Despite the raunchier theme of this song, it still consists of no bad words!

Eminem felt personally dissed by Smith's comment on not having to use curse words during his 1998 MTV Video Music Awards acceptance speech. Shady responded by including the line, "Will Smith don't gotta cuss in his raps to sell records. Well, I do. So [expletive] him and [expletive] you too."
