The hijacker, Stein Arvid Huseby, threatened a cabin attendant and told the captain to proceed as planned to Fornebu Airport. He said he had planted explosives on the plane (which was a lie) and held everybody hostage by wielding an air gun. Huseby was drunk during the entire incident and demanded to make a political statement and to speak to the Prime Minister and the Minister of Justice of Norway.
As the plane landed at 15:30, it was immediately surrounded by police. An hour later, Huseby released 70 hostages in exchange for the aircraft to be moved closer to the terminal. A half an hour after that, he released the rest of the hostages and finished consuming the entire beer supply of the plane.
Two hours after landing, he got his priorities in order and surrendered his weapon in exchange for more beer! He was arrested and sentenced to three years in prison and five years detention. He had previously been sentenced five times for violent offenses, including an armed robbery of a taxi and threatening a sheriff with a shotgun.
