Think back through the history of the live comedy sketch show Saturday Night Live. Which crew member lasted the longest? It's the announcer, Don Pardo. Chances are you've only heard his name in passing and probably haven't seen his face.

Since Saturday Night Live (SNL) first aired on October 11, 1975, Don Pardo has made the announcements. Even though he has since retired from NBC in 2004, he continued to fly to New York to be the voice of SNL.

In 2009, at the age of 90, he agreed to still be the announcer, but would do so from the warm, inviting climate of his home studio in Arizona. Now that is some serious job security!

There was one season that Don Pardo did not get to be the announcer, being replaced with Mel Brandt. The seventh season in 1981-1982 was full of changes and restructuring, along with the dimissal of the producer and a shut down due to the 1981 WGA strike.

Another SNL fun fact: Cold air is pumped into the studio to keep the audience from getting uncomfortable. Studies show that physically uncomfortable people are much less likely to laugh.
