Even a collapsing tunnel couldn't stop this Subaru

Like Indiana Jones with a Fast and Furious twist, a Subaru WRX Sti Type RA escaped a collapsing tunnel by simply outrunning it.

It occurred in a tunnel about 80 kilometers west of Tokyo near the end of 2012. Concrete slabs 50 to 60 meters long and 20 centimeters thick began falling onto the traffic below. Many cars were stuck in the rubble, but the iconic blue Subaru emerged with nothing but a plume of smoke emerging from behind.

The passenger seat was mangled, obviously a victim of the collapse as well. The driver's wife, who was sitting in the damaged passenger seat, was injured but survived. The driver, an NHK employee and one of Japan's national broadcasters, saw the collapse happening and managed to pass up ten cars and make it out.

Although a sad story overall, this couldn't be a better commercial for Subaru. When every other car fell victim to a whole tunnel, this tank of a car sped through and came out relatively unscathed. And even when hit, it managed to pull through and get its driver to safety.
