During the production of ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest,’ a decision was made to cut the small kissing scene between Elizabeth Swann and Captain Jack Sparrow from Orlando Bloom’s script. The reason for the cut? To get a genuine reaction of surprise from Orlando.
Another genuine reaction of surprise from the actors came from an improvisation from Johnny Depp. While aboard the Flying Dutchman, Depp decided to break out in song and sang, “I’ve got a jar of dirt” to the surprise of the other actors. Like the omitted kiss, the director loved the genuine reactions from his actors and kept the scene in the movie.
The ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ franchise is one of the most successful movie franchises in the history of cinema, raking in billions from box office receipts. The fifth installment is due out in 2016.
