Rachel Krishevsky was a child loving woman who believed that children bring tremendous joy. When she died at the ripe old age of 99, she left behind 1400 direct descendants!
Rachel married her husband Yitzhak, who was also her cousin, when she was 19 years old. They lived near a supermarket on Mahane Yehuda, in Jerusalem. They had eleven kids together—seven sons and four daughters.
Their children then went on to produce 150 grandchildren, to the joy of their grandmother, who lived by the teaching "be fruitful and multiply". The grandchildren then produced over a 1000 great-grandchildren, and at the time of Rachel's death, her great-great-grandchildren were numbered in the hundreds.
Her family said that she knew each one of her descendants personally. They remember her as a great woman who was kind and loving and was always willing to help the homeless people who came to the supermarket where they lived.
"She knew the entire book of Psalms by heart, and participated in all the family events, happy and sad, up until two years ago. She knew all of her descendants. We are sad about her death, but proud of what she achieved in her life and her righteousness and compassion," one of her grandchildren told an Israeli newspaper after her passing.
