In the 1960's, it seemed as if everyone was buying records. If you wanted to listen to your favourite band, you either sat by the radio all day, or you went down to a record store and bought their vinyl so you could play it at home.

Musicians were selling records, and that's how they made almost all of their money. But today we live in a world of downloadable music, completely for free, so how exactly are musicians making their money?

If you click the source, you'll see the whole graph breakdown. For now, we'll just highlight some of the key parts of it. The minimum monthly wage in the United States is around $1160.

In order to earn that monthly wage, they would have to sell 143 CD's for $9.99. That doesn't seem so bad, right? On average, that breaks down to about 4-5 CD's a day.

Most musicians want to join the digital age, so they are trying to expand their audience by selling their albums on iTunes.

They would need to sell 1,229 albums on iTunes in order to make minimum wage at the end of the month! If a musician wants to have their music on Spotify, they will need to have their song played over 4 MILLION times to make minimum wage!
