Arizona almost went to war with California with a two-boat Navy!

Today, as ever, water is a precious commodity. In developing countries, people often don't have access to water.

This can cause disease and even death. In the early 20th century, Americans too were fighting to access to water. Literally.

In 1934, Arizona called up the state militia and National Guard to protest California's construction of the Parker Dam and the state's diversions from the Colorado River.

Arizona also utilized it's "navy," which consisted of two commandeered ferry boats, the Nellie T. And Julia B. They patrolled the river for a few days.

Thankfully, this tension only relieved without any violence when the issue was settled in court. Later, Arizona would sign the Colorado River Compact that divided the river's water between the states of the Upper and Lower Basins.
