Instead Of Putting This Cow Down, Some Farmers Went Above And Beyond To Save Him

Growing up, Duke the bullock cow had a big problem with bullies. In fact, the other cows were so bad and so aggressive that the poor guy lost the ability to walk on his own.

But even though that kind of injury usually spells the end of the line for farm animals, a family in North Yorkshire, England, saved him from that grim fate and brought the sweet boy to the Calf Sanctuary.

Run by Sharon Lawler, the sanctuary helps Duke and other cuties like him who would have otherwise been put down instead of given assistance.

You can usually find him hanging out with this little guy, his best friend and cuddle buddy, Kevin.

He also likes to tease his human sister, Storm, and spook her — just like any big brother!

Lawler and her husband worked for months on ways to give Duke’s hind legs a boost and help rebuild his strength.

It took a lot of trial and error before finding a solution that wouldn’t result in more wounds from the straps rubbing against him.

After several donations, they were finally able to afford this customized wheelchair to help him move around.

As soon as they strapped him in, the little rascal started chasing Lawler around and demanding grass treats quicker than she could pull them up!

He still has a long road of recovery and physical therapy in front of him, but his new wheels will definitely help him over any bumps along the way.

Of course, new ride aside, it’s the love of his new family that will help Duke go the distance. Lawler spends as much time as she can with the cutie, massaging his muscles, giving him medication, and working with him to stand on his own. Thank goodness she was there to give Duke the happy life he deserves.

You can keep up with his recovery and find more adorable pics over on his Facebook page.
