Taking any one of these stunning road trips will remind you why “America the Beautiful” was written. If you’re up for a remote adventure, pictured above, the Seward Highway in Alaska is a 127-mile stretch of road between Anchorage and Seward that winds through the spectacular Alaskan wilderness offering dramatic views of everything from the shorelines of Turnagain Arm and the soaring craggy peaks of the Chugach Mountains to the turquoise-hued glaciers and sparkling valley lakes. Moose, eagles and bears are just some of the wildlife you might spot along the way.

Pacific Coast Scenic Byway, Oregon

The Pacific Coast Scenic Byway follows Oregon’s magnificent, rugged coastline along Highway 101. You’ll enjoy amazing, unobstructed vistas along much of the 300 mile road, of wind-sculpted dunes, the roaring waves of the Pacific and sea stacks, those intriguing rocky spires that create especially dramatic seascapes when struck by the thundering waves.

Legendary for its awe-inspiring scenery, the Pacific Coast Highway extends nearly 656 miles through California, mostly along the coastline, from Orange County just south of Los Angeles up to Mendocino County. Several of its sections are known as the Pacific Coast Highway, including the 123-mile cliff-hugging stretch from Monterey through Big Sur.

The Overseas Highway spans 113 miles as a series of roads and 42 trans-ocean bridges all the way down to America’s southernmost point, Key West, with incredible panoramic views of coastal flats and islets the entire way.

Beartooth Highway, Montana and Wyoming

This 67-mile stretch of US Highway 212 in Wyoming and Montana is the highest elevation highway in the Northern Rockies. It crests at nearly 11,000 feet in elevation, at the aptly named viewpoint, Top of the World, offering jaw-dropping views of the Absaroka and Beartooth Mountains, glacial lakes, forested valleys, and the chance to spot wildlife like bighorn sheep, Rocky Mountain goats, mountain lions and bobcats.
