A Woman Broke This Cat's Neck, But You're Going To Want To Hear His Happy Ending

One of the most amazing things is how forgiving animals can be, even after humans have done terrible things to them. Horribly abused rescue dogs overcome anxiety and learn to love again all the time; but, for whatever reason, you don’t hear about cats bouncing back quite as often. That doesn’t mean that it’s not happening.

This cat in particular had a very tough time, and although his predicament left him crippled for life, he’s still learned to love again.

This sweetie pie is Emerson.

He’s ten years old, and he sits differently from most cats because his bottom half is completely paralyzed.

You see, when he was brought into the Houlton Humane Society, a woman admitted to snapping the poor cat’s neck because he was being annoying.

…Which is heartbreaking in and of itself that anyone could be so heartless to a defenseless cat.

His spinal cord was severely damaged, his neck was broken, his ribs were fractured, and to top it off…he had some sort of chemical burns on his feet.

…But he didn’t give up.

After multiple surgeries and recoveries, Emerson is up and at ’em in his super-cool wheelchair.

At first, he didn’t really understand how it worked…

And due to inherent cat laziness on top of the fact that his front legs needed to gain strength…

It took a lot of hard work for the aging cutie to get the hang of his chair.

But he’s got it down now!

…But that doesn’t mean he can’t still enjoy some nice R & R every now and then.

Due to his condition, Emerson has to wear kitty diapers, and needs to receive fluids intravenously every day.

The damage to his spinal cord left him with a permanent head-tilt, so he can’t drink on his own. He’s still a Super Cat, though!

His mom, Houlton Humane Society Executive Director Heather Miller, says wholeheartedly that all the extra work and cash that’s gone towards Emerson is entirely worth it.

Because his unbroken spirit and ability to love again is truly inspiring.

She also says that “he’s more human than a lot of humans I know.” A human’s spirit might be shattered after a tragedy like this, but not Emerson’s.
