In an interview with Discovery Magazine, author Wade Davis was asked why, in his book ‘Light at the Edge of the World," he so heavily celebrated the Inuit culture.
In response, Wade recounted a story that, in terms of jaw-dropping shock value, stands tall with any modern slasher film.
According to Davis, in the 1950s, the Canadian government led a movement against the Inuit people. Similar to how the American government treated its Native American population, Inuits were being forced into settlements against their will.
However, one Eskimo would not stand for it.
While his family had resigned to living in a settlement, he was adamantly against it. So adamant, in fact, that his family stripped him of his tools, thinking he might try something stupid.
Boy were they right.
In the middle of the night, the Eskimo slipped outside and proceed to poop into his hand. While the poop froze and stiffened, he fashioned it into a sharp knife.
Newly armed, the man proceeded to kill and skin a dog. After eating part of it, he fashioned the dog’s body into a makeshift sled.
Now THAT'S an interesting culture!
