The Powerpuff Girls Originally Had A Hilarious Name That Was Too Inappropriate For TV At The Time!

At the time, young children saying "whoop ass" to their parents probably would have given them a MAJOR time out and time away from the television. But today, it's not a word people freak out about.

In 1992, the idea of Powerpuff Girls was conceived by writer Craig McCracken. It was originally called "Whoopass Stew!" and the PP girls were called the "Whoopass Girls".

After a needed name change, 3 years later, World Premiere Toons snagged up what McCracken had made. Following it's release, in November of 1998, Cartoon Network picked it up for a program called Cartoon Cartoon.

Over the course of it's lifetime, he had been nominated for six Emmy Awards, a Kid's Choice Award and nine Annie awards. This past June, Cartoon Network made the kick-ass announcement that it would be returning sometime in 2016, 12 years after the last new episode went off the air.
