The 8th President of the United States Was The First President to be a US Born Citizen!

Now a days, it's an absolute rule that one must be a US born citizen in order to be considered for the presidential Ballot. But that wasn’t always the case.

Martin Van Buren, the eighth president of the United States, was the very first president to be a US-born citizen. The previous seven presidents were all British Subjects before the American Revolution occurred.

He is also the first president to come from New York state. Surprisingly, his first language was Dutch and English was his second language later in his life.

Martin Van Buren was of the Democratic party, and he was the tenth secretary of state under Andrew Jackson and the 9th governor of New York state. He also was the United States Minister to the United Kingdom from 1831-1832.

After his second run as president, he tried running under the Free Soil Party, but did not succeed. This third-party ticket dissolved in 1854.
