From dystopian tales like ‘Nineteen-Eighty-Four’ to happy romps like ‘Back to the Future: Part II’, the future has always provided plenty of room for speculation.
However, it has also led to some scary insight about our universe and the various forms of life within it.
Scientists are now predicting that if everything continues on its current path, the Earth will no longer have enough carbon dioxide to support life as we know it.
Specifically, because the sun keeps getting brighter, it will eventually start to disrupt the planet’s atmosphere. This will cause levels of carbon dioxide to fall, meaning plants will no longer be able to perform photosynthesis.
When this happens, the Earth will no longer have any oxygen, and all multicellular life will die out.
Thankfully, this won’t happen soon, as it will take 800 million years to completely run out. Still, if those eternal life studies ever show results, it’s never too early to look for real-estate in other galaxies.
