If you haven’t heard of Demetri Martin, it’s high time you fixed that. Similar to comedians like Steven Wright or Mitch Hedberg, Martin’s style blends off-the-wall observations with witty one-liners and all the adorkable qualities of your favorite nerdy friend.
However, he wasn’t always the beloved stand-up we know today.
Before his career took of, Martin worked as a White House intern for the Clinton Administration. Specifically, he worked in the Domestic Policy Council with one of President Clinton’s deputy advisors.
Thankfully for his fans, Martin didn’t exactly love the job. In his own words:
“It taught me that I didn't want to work in politics...You'd see people and they were like walking resumés. It was very unappealing to me.”
What Martin did gain from politics, however, was a love of performance and being in front of crowds. Combined with his humorous sensibilities, he jumped into the world of comedy and never looked back.
