Even the most patriotic, America loving, flag waving citizens can make a mistake and break the rules of the thing they love so much—Old Glory.
There are a long set of rules and regulations that stars-and-stripes loving people should be aware of, because you're probably breaking at least one of them.
People may love showing off their love for the flag by draping it over themselves, wearing it as a shirt, or modifying it into a dress. This directly ignores section 8 of the Flag Code, entitled "Respect for the Flag."
It states that "The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery" and "No part of the flag should ever be used as a costume or athletic uniform."
But what is "the flag"?
The same code defines it as anything "by which the average person seeing the same without deliberation may believe the same to represent the flag of the United States of America."
So Captain America, and everyone who enjoys the U.S. flag design on clothing is safe to show it off—until the average person starts saluting shirts!
