Prisoners In The United States Have More Than Quadrupled Within The Last 3 Decades to Millions!

Studies show that between 1980 and 2008, prisoners within the United States went from 500,000 to over 2.3 million. That's approximately the population of Houston and Arlington, Texas combined.

While the US is 5% of the world's population, it holds approximately 25% of the world's prisoners. This doesn't even count the amount of people that are out on parole.

Under this note, it is found that 1 in every 31 people are under some type of correctional control whether this be probation, etc.

The amount of prisoners is equate to $70 billion dollars in annual funding to correctional facilities. There is also approximately $200 billion spent yearly on the safety of public alone.

Is the incarceration of so many people worth the money that is spent annually?
