So often, there are small town places that are real community staples, but eventually close up shop when the owners move on or a bad business deal leaves it lease-less. That hasn't been the case with old Sean's Bar in Ireland, though. That place has been around since 900 A.D.!

Less than a millennium after the times of Jesus, just a few centuries after the great Roman Empire fell, this little pub was built. It's located in Athlone, Ireland and has been awarded a Guinness World Record in 2004 for being the oldest bar still operating. It was originally known as Luain's Inn but is colloquially known as Sean's Bar.

According to Frommer's travel guide, the bar has records on every single owner since the building's inception. In fact, you don't have to go too far back to see a familiar name: 80's pop-rock icon Boy George owned it for a brief period in 1987!
