Around 9:30pm on September 27, 2009, three militants came to barge into her home. They allegedly broke a window and forcefully entered the home, with guns and a bad attitude to boot. Rukhhsana was hidden under a cot and didn't emerge until the militants began beating her family with the rifle butts, demanding to know where she was. She came out from under the cot wielding an axe.
She struck the terrorist militant commander in the head while the other militants opened fire, injuring her uncle's arm. The rest of the family joined in on the attack as Rukhsana retrieved the commander's AK47, tossing it to her brother who fired at the wounded commander, killing him. The rest of the bad guys were forced to flee.
The family took the weapons to the local police station and were awarded a National Bravery Award and offers to join the local police, which they declined.
