The USSR thought a building in the center of the Pentagon was a top secret room. Was it?

The Soviet Union may have had intelligence about happenings all over the world, but that doesn't mean they weren't capable of making some pretty funny mistakes.

In the center courtyard of the Pentagon, there stood a small building that was shaped like a pentagon, just like the main building that enclosed the courtyard. That smaller building frequently saw heavy traffic. In the eyes of the distrusting and cautious Soviets, it was the most secret of places.

Perhaps their fears got the best of them, because the Soviets began to suspect a nuclear attack could be launched at any moment from a bunker concealed under the building. That was the conclusion reached after uniformed personnel could be seen entering and exiting at set times each day.

What's the truth, through? Were their fears warranted? No. The Soviet Union could have taken a big sigh of relief. Actually, the building simply housed a hot dog stand! Just imagine how duped they must have felt. The uniformed personnel were likely just Pentagon employees grabbing a quick lunch.

Although the Soviets allegedly pointed missiles at the structure and closely monitored it for brewing trouble, there was something much less sinister going on. Apparently, the people at the Pentagon just wanted to enjoy an all-American hotdog.
