In 2011, a woman completely shut off the Internet in Armenia!

There's a 75-year-old woman in Georgia (the country) that shut down the Internet for an entire country. In 2011, the Georgia Interior Ministry confirmed that the woman admitted to damaging fiber optic cables while scavenging for copper in the village of Ksani. This resulted in all of neighboring Armenia losing Internet for a day

Dubbed "the spade-hacker" by local news, the woman now faces up to three years in jail. "She found the cable while collecting scrap metal and cut it with a view to stealing it," Georgian interior ministry spokesman Zura Gvenetadze said.

The unnamed woman cut one line, but affected all three of Armenia's Internet providers. Luckily for the people living in Armenia, service was back up by midnight of the same day.

The providers aren't really sure how she was able to get to the wire. The head of one of the companies' marketing departments was quoted as saying "I cannot understand how this lady managed to find and damage the cable... it has robust protection and such incidents are extremely rare."
