Craig Harrison holds the record for the longest confirmed sniper kill in combat - 2707 yards!

The record for the longest confirmed sniper kill in combat belongs to CoH Craig Harrison in the Blues and Royals RHG/D of the British Army. His targets were 2707 yards away (2.475 km)!

Harrison struck two Taliban machine gunners south of Musa Qala in Helmand Province in Afghanistan in November 2009.

He used a L115A3 Long Range Rifle with a Schmidt & Bender MILITARY MKII 5-25x56 0.1 MIL RAD parallax, illumination, and double turn telescopic sight.

Harrison said it took nine shots before he and his spotter could successfully range the target. His first shot on target at a distance of 2707 yards was a killing shot, and the consecutive shot killed the second gunner. His third shot took out the machine gun.

According to CoH Harrison the environmental conditions on that day were perfect for long range shots. He says the weather was mild and there was no wind. Visibility was also very clear.

Despite the environment being friendly, it takes a lot of skill to accomplish such accuracy at such a distance! Harrison had to use the P4 reticle offering 0.5mil spaced holdover hash marks in his 5-25x 56 telescopic sights to compensate for the lack of vertical aiming correction and thus achieve the required aiming solution.
