Conspiracy theorists have shown a lot of interest in finding ways to prove that the moon first moon landing was faked. Jay Weidner goes as far as to say that Stanley Kubrick filmed it in studio and confesses to his part in 'faking' the landing in the film 'The Shining.' According to Weidner, he does so in subtle, hidden messages throughout the film.
According to Jay, the Overlook Hotel symbolizes America, and the main character, Jack, personifies Kubrick. This means that every instruction Jack receives from the hotel manager is a symbolized instruction from the government to Kubrick. He says the fact that the fictitious family was trapped by a cold storm symbolizes the Cold War between Russia and America. In his opinion, that war was the reason America was forced to fake the moon landing.
In the movie, when Jack's son, Danny, stands up in the hallway, he's wearing a sweater with a rocket sewn on the front. On the rocket 'Apollo 11' is clearly visible. Weidner writes: 'The audience watching the film literally sees the launch of Apollo 11, right before their eyes... It isn't the real launch of Apollo 11; it is, of course, the symbolic launching of Apollo 11. In other words - it wasn't real.'
According to this conspiracy theorist, the entire movie is wrought with Kubrick's desperate efforts to confess to faking the moon landing – in order to save his own life. He does not explain why Kubrick's life would be in danger if he didn't confess so subtly.
