There have been over 400 billion LEGO bricks produced in the world--that's 62 LEGOs per person!

The iconic Danish toy company LEGO has been making their classic blocks since 1949. Today, they sell products in more than 130 countries. Approximately 19 million LEGO elements are produced each year, and as of 2008, over 400 billion LEGO bricks had been produced. That comes out to about 62 LEGO bricks for every person on Earth.

LEGO started selling sets in the 50s and has developed thousands since. In the United States, LEGO launches an average of 130 new sets per year, and approximately seven LEGO sets are sold every second around the world.

When asked about the best-selling toys, a LEGO representative stated, "Over the last 50 years, we have seen that Town, Space, Castle and Pirates are the evergreen themes that seem to always have a place in the hearts of LEGO fans. Right now, LEGO CITY is the number-one theme around the world, and other global best-sellers include LEGO Star Wars, BIONICLE, and LEGO Indiana Jones."
