The war on drugs has raged on everywhere from the border to the south to many of our home towns. Police are consistently performing sting operations, drug busts, and undercover missions to infiltrate and get things like crack and heroin off the streets. That's just fine with me, but it turns out the war on drugs should probably include your local watering hole.
A 2010 study suggests that alcohol abuse is more harmful than crack or heroine abuse. Experts rated 20 different drugs on a scale of how harmful the drug is, rating them on nine harms for an individual and seven harms for a society. It ranged from a 0 (no harm) to 100 (incredibly harmful), therefor a drug that scores 50 is half as harmful as one that scores 100.
Alcohol came out on top, scoring a 72 and being the most harmful drug to society and fourth most harmful to an individual. Alcohol can be the blame for more than 60 different diseases and effects that are still unknown on the body.
In second place was Heroin, which only scored a 55. The least harmful drug? Mushrooms, scoring a measly 5.
