ALF was a sitcom on NBC running from 1986 to 1990. The premise of the show was that an alien, Gordon Shumway, nicknamed ALF for alien life form, crashed into the garage of the suburban middle-class Tanner family. The production of ALF was technically difficult and very demanding. All four of the lead actors have voiced that there was major tension on the set. The 30 minute show took 20 to 25 hours to shoot.
It was a nightmare for the actors who had to revolve around an inanimate puppet that had all the good lines. Tensions were so high, that they were like a dysfunctional family. The last day of shooting was especially tense and long. Max Wright, who played the Tanner father, shot his last take and walked off set. He went straight to his dressing room, packed his bags, went to his car, and left without a single goodbye to anyone. Had the show lasted one more season, the entire cast would have fallen apart.
