You may or may not have seen a living statue before, but you've likely heard of them. They're not statues at all, but people who are often mistaken for actual statues. Some even make a living off of tips.
Perhaps it would surprise you to know that living statues have been around since renaissance times!
During medieval and renaissance festivities and pageantry, such as when royalty entered a city, a group would enact a scene atop an elaborate stand decorated to look like a monument.
Today, living statues are more than just street performers. The German dancer Olga Desmond performed 'Evenings of Beauty,' in which she posed nude in imitation of classical works of art. This was called a living picture, something JK Rowling would certainly appreciate.
There's even a Guinness World Record for the longest continuous living statue. That title goes to Antnio Santos, aka Staticman, with a time of 15 hours, 5 minutes, and 55 seconds standing still. It's said that he made more world records but wasn't under the supervision of Guinness for economic reasons.
