Clint Eastwood says he was offered the role of James Bond when Sean Connery walked away after playing in five of the Bond movies. Connery was scared that he will become typecast and that it will have a negative impact on his career.
A young Clint had not yet made it big and only appeared in spaghetti Westerns up to that point, but decided the role should go to an Englishman. Eastwood says that, even though they offered him pretty good money at the time, “It didn't feel right for me to be doing it.”
He also told the ‘Los Angeles Times’ in a rare interview that he was offered the role of the flying superhero, Superman, before the role was given to Christopher Reeves. ‘This was when they first started to think about making it,’ he said. ‘I was like, “Superman? Nah, nah, that’s not for me” He said he really did not like the idea of dressing up in a cape and tights!
Eastwood prefers to play characters grounded in reality and has been nominated for 10 Oscars and won four. Unfortunately he has never won an award in the ‘Best Actor’ category.
