The average person in Denmark eats around 3 times their weight in meat a year! What makes them so carnivorous?

Consisting mostly of fish and red meats, the yearly diet of the every day person in the Nordic country of Denmark weighs around 322 pounds! This appetite for protein comes from their agricultural past and geography, as well as their long winters. In cold weather it is more difficult to grow vegetables and fruit. Therefore, the people of Denmark have always relied mostly on the farming of animals rather than on agriculture.

Perhaps most surprising about this fact is that the people of Denmark actually beat out America who weighs in at about an average of 215 pounds of meat consumption per person each year. The reason America is known for its culinary indulgences is the plethora of other food groups that they throw in along with their consumption of meat.

The country that eats the least amount of meat per year is India. Though their appetite for protein rich foods is growing, they still hit the scales at a measly 12 pounds per person, per year. That is equivalent to getting only 9 steaks worth of meat per year!
