White mushrooms, button mushrooms, and Portobello muschrooms are actually all the same mushroom!

Mushrooms are the odd looking fungus that people like to eat. While some species of mushroom can kill you, most cultivated mushrooms are harmless and can enhance a good meal.

The most common mushroom found in supermarkets today would be the Button Mushroom. These small bulbous white mushrooms are fairly neutral in taste and can be had quite cheaply.

A slightly lesser known mushroom, the White Mushroom, is a little more rare and used by restaurants to spice up dishes.

Then there is the Portobello Mushroom, a true delicacy that you will generally only find in fine dining establishments.

Surprisingly, these mushrooms are all the same item, just picked at different stages of the fungi's life. The Buttons are the youngest, followed by the White and then finally the old age Portobello.
