Tie-breakers are something tournament organisers don't relish at all. Some sports are still exciting to watch during a tie-break, such as tennis. Others, like soccer, which is settled by goal kicks, do not have great spectator value.
To overcome the possibility of a draw at the final stage of a tournament, organisers put in place, sometimes elaborate means to ensure one person or team eventually wins.
The NFL is no different. A draw at the finals would have the crowd in revolt. To ensure this does not happen the NFL has a multi stage plan in place to break any ties that come to pass. In fact, there are 12 levels of tie break worked into the system, and so far it has never needed to go further than the fifth level.
In the unlikely event that all 12 levels are used and a tie still comes to pass, then the playoffs would be decided by a coin toss.
That should have the crowd on their feet.
