Congress's approval rating hit an all time low in 2013 at 9 percent. Even with all that disapproval, it seems to take an army of voters to oust them, which is a rare case. Sometimes they make a lifelong career out of it, term after term. And an amendment that was introduced to put a term limit on congress, like the president, was shot down.
The Citizen Legislature Act would have imposed a 12-year term limit on everyone in congress (six terms for House Representatives and 2 terms for Senators). Even with such a generous limit, it was rejected by the U.S. House 227-204. Though a majority wanted it, an amendment requires a two-thirds approval to pass.
Surprisingly, Congress also hit a rare peak at 19 percent when they rebuffed President Obama's decision to implement a use-of-force resolution in Syria. Of course, then the shut down happened and the ratings went right back into the toilet.
As of March 10, there were 69 days in the 2014 calendar year. Congress worked a total of 28 of them, far less than half. Nothing like taking it easy in government!
