The James Randi Educational Foundation (JREF) is a non profit foundation set up by magician, James Randi, to test paranormal claims and generally education the public about believing things that have little real backing.
Their most famous project is the One Million Dollar Paranormal Challenge where the foundation offers a million dollar prize to anyone that can prove their paranormal ability under controlled conditions. The test criteria are designed and agreed by mutual consent between the testers and the applicant.
The prize was initiated in 1996, and so far around 1000 people have applied to be tested. To date nobody has been able to claim the prize.
Randi is quoted as saying that even though applicants fail the test, it is very seldom seen by them as evidence that they don't have any significant paranormal powers.
