The restaurant business is not for the fainted hearted as can be witnessed by the speed with which eateries open and close. It seems like, no sooner have you found that ideal spot that sells the food just the way you like it, then they close down.
There are, however, a handful of restaurants that have stood the test of time. Once such place is "Ma Yu Ching's Bucket Chicken House". This small family owned eating house in Kaifeng, China, first opened for business in 1153 AD. The restaurant still sells today what it did almost 800 years ago - noodles, rice and roast chicken.
While the Guinness Book of Records lists the Spanish restaurant, "Sobrino de Botn", established in 1725, as the oldest in the world, there are some that contend Ma Yu Ching's restaurant should hold that title. These two are, however, put to shame by the Austrian restaurant, Stiftskeller St. Peter, which was allegedly founded in 803 and is still operating today.
It certainly gives one food for thought.
