Saturday Night Live has become the gateway for aspiring comedians and comedic actors to make their break into show business. If you can make it to Saturday Night Live, you're going to make it far in the entertainment world. Obviously, like all great things, SNL didn't start off as one of the most iconic shows of all time when it made it's debut on October 11, 1975.
The first season of SNL featured many legendary comedians such as Chevy Chase, Dan Aykroyd, and John Belushi. The first host of SNL was none other than George Carlin, who wanted to wear a t-shirt but the network wouldn't allow it. Instead, Carlin wore a suit jacket and vest over a t-shirt, and hosted the show while high as a kite.
George Carlin, one of the greatest comedians of all time, was also the only host of Saturday Night Live to not have any involvement in any comedic sketches, which was at his request.
