During their early days, members of The Beastie Boys had a different point of view when it came to homosexuals. Their album, "License to Ill" was originally named "Don't Be a Faggot." Columbia Records refused to release the album under that name because it was "homophobic."
After some pressure from Columbia, The Beastie Boys managers persuaded the band to change the name. After it's release, the album went on to commercial and critical success, receiving platinum status, and has been selected as one of hip-hop's greatest albums by The Source.
Although the name of the album changed, the album still contained severely homophobic lyrics. In recent years, the band has changed it's point of view and have even apologized to the Gay and Lesbian community for their "ignorance" during those days.
