For thousands of years, and through many well-known feature films, we were taught that the Jews were enslaved in Egypt and forced to build those magnificent pyramids. However, there isn't a single shard of undeniable proof that the Jews were ever in Egypt at all.
Passover, the massive exodus, and the many days spent in the desert could all just be a myth straight from the Bible, according to archeologists. Stories say that about 600,000 families escaped Egypt, which would account for about a quarter of Egypt's population. Yet, there are no records of economic downturns or labor shortages. Not a single shard of pottery has been found with Hebrew, and no records in Israel mention a mass influx of people.
This ancient tiff that may not even be true has lead to strained relations between Egypt and Israel for millenniums. Rumors of releasing sharks into the Red Sea to kill Egyptians to magnetic belts that Jews would sell to sterilize a man on contact have come up. As ridiculous as it sounds, it just goes to show you that people can really hold a grudge—this one is almost 4500 years old.
