John Hughes wrote the screenplay for his breakthrough hit ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’ in less than a week. His logbook notes that on the first night he wrote 10 pages, then knocked out the rest in the following five days.
Hughes shot the film based on his first draft of the script, finishing the entire thing over the course of only a few months. Most movies can take years to write, develop, and successfully produce. Hughes also claims he conceived the idea one day and pitched it to Paramount Studios the following day, receiving his requested budget.
The budget for the film was a relatively small $5.8 million. The movie, however, quickly became one of the highest grossing films of the year. It remains a classic, critically-acclaimed piece of cinema history.
