It is located in Bangor, Maine, where King also resides, and is one of the few radio stations in the USA that is still locally owned. It has been a classic rock station since 1990.

The other band members are Dave Barry, Amy Tan, Robert Fulghum, Matt Groenig and Roy Blount, Jr. The band spent two weeks touring the East Coast and massacred rock songs in "clubs where the customers brandished books, and clubs where the listeners brandished clubs."
He has even occasonally dropped references to the station in his books. In his novel 11-22-63, the character Jake saves most of the Dunning family and when he comes back to 2011 he looks up Ellen Dunning. He calls her and finds out she's a "jock for WKIT in Bangor, you know, a disk jockey?"
