During his interview with James Lipton on 'Inside The Actor's Studio,' Jim Carrey explained that he was raised in a lower middle class in Newmarket, Ontario, Canada. Carrey's father worked as a musician and had a day job to support the family. When his father lost his job, the Carrey family was forced to live out of a van.
When Carrey turned 15, he dropped out of school and began working as a janitor in order to support his family. He never finished high school.
Of course, Carrey never really needed school. His family supported him as he became interested in comedy, working as a standup in Toronto and ultimately moving to the United States.
Carrey found his first true hit comedy with his starring role in 1994's Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, and the rest is history.
