Lyndon Baines Johnson wanted to be the greatest president that ever lived. Despite the many positive political changes he introduced, he will probably be remembered for his blinding arrogance and the Vietnam War. He was a big man with grand ambitions and an even bigger ego.
A tall, imposing man, Johnson loved to dominate those around him and he used crass behavior to bend people to his will. He would lean over people and spit, belch, swear or laugh in their faces. He even relieved himself on a Secret Serviceman who shielded him from the public view, and when the poor man looked horrified, Johnson wryly said: "That's all right, son. It's my prerogative."
His favorite way of asserting his power over people was to drag them into the bathroom with him—forcing them to continue their meetings or conversations with the president while he was using the toilet!
Johnson usually became furious if people talked about John F. Kennedy’s female conquests. He would beat his fist on his desk and shout: "Why, I had more women on accident than he ever had on purpose!"
