The cry of a baby is specifically designed to be hard to ignore!
Evolutionarily speaking, babies play tricks on your brain when they cry. New research shows that the baby cry has evolved to trigger certain parts of our brain that make it hard to ignore.
This is why it’s hard not to notice crying babies in public spaces and why it’s so annoying. The cry is designed to make us more attentive and it primes our body to help whenever we hear it.
The researchers wired up 28 people and exposed them to the sound of babies crying, as well as cats and dogs whining. The baby turned out certain emotional parts of the brain.
